first_imgScottish man Michael Porter, 35, is trying to get justice for his mum whom he believes was murdered. His mum, 53-year-old Jean Hanlon, was found dead on the island of Crete just four days after sending a text message to a friend. The message said, “Help me.”Her body was found at Heraklion harbour on 9 March, 2009, and police attributed the death to an accidental drowning however her son still feels uncertainty as to what had happened to his mum.Mr Porter has been told that the case will remain closed unless new evidence emerges, however he feels that there are many unanswered questions regarding the circumstances of her death. A post-mortem conducted at her family’s insistence found many injuries to the body, including facial wounds, shattered ribs and a punctured lung. She had vanished days before her body was found and in the hours before she disappeared, she had arranged to meet two male friends at a bar. Both a Greek and a Belgian man were quizzed regarding the woman’s death, however they were released.Mr Porter has produced a video to mark the 10th anniversary of his mum’s death, and he is turning to a Greek TV show known as “Light in the Tunnel” in the hope of getting answers.Last year, Mr Porter appeared before MPs at Westminster to discuss the experience of trying to gain help from UK consulate officials. He has also written to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and is awaiting a reply. Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagramlast_img read more
